A China to NZ freight quote is only useful when it is based on complete shipment information. The price can change when carton dimensions, weight, collection arrangements, delivery requirements or the product description differ from the details supplied at the time of quoting.
A freight quote does not automatically include every cost from the factory to the final New Zealand destination. Confirm where the service starts, where it ends and which charges sit outside the quoted price.
Information Needed for a China to NZ Freight Quote
A product link and order value are not enough. The freight provider needs the shipment details, supplier location, delivery address, goods value and service required.
Supplier collection address in China
Provide the supplier’s full collection address, including the city and district. Domestic trucking within China is priced from the actual pickup point, not from a broad description such as “Guangdong” or “China”.
Confirm whether the supplier will deliver the goods to a warehouse, airport or port, or whether this movement must be included in the freight service.
Final carton, crate or pallet details
Provide the following information after the goods are packed:
- Total number of cartons, crates or pallets
- Length, width and height of each package
- Gross weight of each package
- Total gross shipment weight
- Total cubic metres, or CBM
- Whether pallets are stackable
Protective packaging, crates and pallets can increase the shipment size. Use final packed measurements for booking.
The freight volume calculator can calculate CBM and volumetric weight before you request pricing.
Product description and shipping restrictions
State what the goods are, what they are made from and how they are used. Do not describe the cargo only as “general goods” or “samples”.
Confirm whether the shipment contains batteries, liquids, powders, magnets, chemicals, motors, pressurised items or other restricted components. These details affect carrier acceptance, paperwork, packaging and handling.
Goods value and commercial documents
Provide the goods value and currency. The commercial invoice and packing list are required before export. Extra permits, certificates or test reports depend on the product and New Zealand import rules.
The goods value is also needed for cargo insurance, Customs clearance and the calculation of import GST, duty and levies.
New Zealand delivery address
Provide the full delivery address and postcode. State whether it is a warehouse, home, rural property, construction site or restricted-access location.
Confirm whether the receiver has a forklift or loading dock. Tail-lift delivery, residential delivery, timed bookings and difficult site access can add costs.
Cargo-ready date and required service
Provide the date the goods will be fully packed and ready for collection. Also state whether you want sea freight, air freight, courier, depot collection or delivery to the final address.
Freight rates have validity periods. If production or packing is delayed beyond that period, the shipment needs to be quoted again.
How Incoterms Affect the Quote
The agreed Incoterms® rule defines how costs, tasks and risks are split between the buyer and seller. The named place or port must be confirmed alongside the three-letter term.
Under EXW, the buyer arranges collection from the supplier. Under FOB, the seller handles export clearance and delivers the goods on board at the named port.
Do not accept vague wording such as “FOB China”. Confirm the named port or terminal and the exact point where the supplier’s responsibility ends.
How the Supplier’s City Affects China-Side Costs
A quote based only on “shipping from China” is incomplete. The pickup city affects trucking, consolidation and the export point.
Shenzhen and Dongguan
A Shenzhen or Dongguan shipment can require trucking to a port, airport or consolidation warehouse. Under EXW, this pickup sits with the buyer unless included in the quote.
Guangzhou and Foshan
Cargo from Guangzhou or Foshan can move through Nansha, Shenzhen or another export point. Trucking and handling need to match the chosen route.
Yiwu and Jinhua
Yiwu and Jinhua shipments often need road transport to Ningbo, Shanghai or a consolidation warehouse. That movement is separate unless included in the quote.
Suzhou and Kunshan
Suzhou or Kunshan cargo can require trucking to Shanghai or another export point. Responsibility depends on the Incoterm and named location.
Orders from multiple suppliers
With suppliers in different cities, each supplier can deliver to one warehouse or separate pickups can be arranged. Both create China-side costs.
Prestige Sourcing can receive and combine goods through its China warehousing and consolidation service before export.
Costs That May Be Excluded From the Quote
Prestige Sourcing provides an overall service price, not a line-by-line disclosure of every underlying charge. The quote states the service scope and known exclusions.

Use the New Zealand Customs fee calculator to estimate import GST, duty and Customs or MPI levies. Confirm the final classification, declared value and charges with a Customs broker, accountant or relevant authority.
China-to-New Zealand Freight and Shipping Options
Prestige Sourcing can coordinate supplier pickup and freight and shipping services from China to New Zealand. The right option depends on size, urgency, product type and delivery requirements.
LCL sea freight
LCL sea freight shares container space with other shipments. It suits commercial orders that do not need a full container.
FCL sea freight
FCL sea freight gives the shipment a dedicated container. It suits larger orders and cargo that benefits from fewer handling stages.
Air freight
Air freight suits urgent stock, higher-value goods and replenishment orders. Pricing uses chargeable weight, so carton dimensions matter.
Sea parcel
Sea parcel suits smaller carton-based shipments where lower cost matters more than speed and a full LCL shipment is unnecessary.
Express courier
Express courier suits samples, documents, spare parts and small urgent consignments. It offers fast delivery but carries a higher cost per kilogram than sea freight.
Door-to-door freight
Door-to-door freight coordinates collection in China through to the New Zealand address. Confirm whether GST, duty, inspections, storage and difficult-access delivery are included.
How to Compare Freight Quotes
Send the same shipment details to every provider. Compare the collection point, destination, dimensions, weight, CBM, Incoterm, service, currency and quote validity.
Also confirm whether insurance, Customs clearance, GST, duty, levies and final delivery are included. A cheaper quote can start later in China, end earlier in New Zealand or exclude a cost that still has to be paid.
