AIR FREIGHT

Is air freight right for you?

Air freight can suit urgent stock, larger samples or valuable goods when sea freight is too slow. The price depends on weight, the space your packages take up and where you need them delivered.

For smaller urgent parcels, compare express courier, which carries and tracks parcels through a courier network. Our China to New Zealand freight overview compares all shipping methods.

Urgent commercial cargo

Urgent stock, samples or valuable goods. We check whether the airline can carry your shipment before booking.

Shipping costs

Airlines compare actual weight with volumetric weight, calculated from package size. We explain which weight applies and how it affects your quote.

Shipping time

Allow around 5–10 days as a broad guide. Flight schedules, customs checks and final delivery can change the dates.

Delivery options

Door delivery or depot collection, subject to your goods, destination and the selected service.

Air freight can be worth the extra cost when you need goods urgently. It is also worth comparing if a parcel is too large or expensive for courier. We check airline acceptance before booking, so you know whether air freight is an option.

For small urgent parcels compare express courier; if your deadline allows sea transport, compare LCL. Tell us about batteries, liquids and restricted goods before booking.

How air freight works

01

Review your shipment

Start with what you are sending and where it needs to go. We will help work through size, weight and timing.
02

Supplier pickup or warehouse delivery

Pickup depends on your supplier’s location. For most shipments under 100kg, you or your supplier will need to arrange delivery to the nominated warehouse in China. We will confirm the arrangements with you before your supplier sends the goods.

03

Arrange air freight

We arrange the booked air-freight route and coordinate the agreed clearance and delivery steps.
04

Plan NZ delivery

We clarify customs arrangements and help you choose depot collection or delivery.

We confirm whether pickup is available or your supplier needs to deliver the goods to the nominated warehouse in China.

Prestige Sourcing can help coordinate air freight shipments from major export centres such as Yiwu, Shanghai, Ningbo, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, with cargo typically arriving into New Zealand through Auckland, and in some cases routed onward depending on the final destination.

From there, delivery may be arranged to a depot, warehouse, business, or other physical address depending on the service selected.

5–10 days
China to New Zealand

Air freight is generally chosen when speed matters more than achieving the lowest freight cost. Transit times will depend on flight schedules, origin city, customs clearance, and final delivery arrangements within New Zealand.

As a general guide, air freight from China to New Zealand is often in the 5-10 day range, although actual timing will vary depending on the service and routing.

Delivery can be arranged nationwide across New Zealand, including both the North Island and South Island, with final delivery to urban, regional, and rural areas depending on the service selected.

Before delivery in NZ

Understand your freight price

Send the weight and outside measurements of each packed carton. Large, light boxes may cost more because of the space they take up. We explain how this affects your quote.

Airline acceptance

Describe the goods accurately, including batteries, liquids or other special handling needs. We will check airline acceptance before your goods are sent.

Plan airport arrival

We explain the clearance arrangements and whether your quote ends at a depot or includes delivery to your NZ address.

FROM SUPPLIER TO YOUR ADDRESS

Delivery after your air shipment arrives

Tell us where you want to receive your goods. We will explain the airport, depot or address-delivery options available in your quote. Customs and biosecurity checks may need to be completed before the goods can leave the arrival facility.

For help arranging delivery from China to your address, see door-to-door freight. Smaller urgent parcels may suit express courier.

We can assess air freight if a courier has declined your goods, although airlines have their own acceptance rules. Tell us exactly what you are shipping, including any batteries or liquids, and send the packed size, weight and product documents. We must confirm that the airline can carry the goods before you send them.
