FULL CONTAINER LOAD

Is FCL right for your shipment?

FCL stands for Full Container Load: your goods travel in their own dedicated container, without sharing space with other cargo. For New Zealand-bound imports, it is often the most economical option when your shipment volume makes a full container worthwhile.

Your own container

Large stock orders or goods packed on pallets that make booking a whole container worthwhile.

Shipping costs

We explain the total cost of handling in China, sea shipping and charges in New Zealand, so you can decide whether FCL offers good value for your order.

Shipping time

Allow around 20–45 days as a broad guide. Ship schedules, customs checks and final delivery can change the dates.

Delivery options

Delivery to a port, depot, warehouse or final address, depending on the agreed service.

FCL can suit wholesale stock, palletised goods and repeat bulk orders when you need a container for your shipment alone. For a smaller load, compare LCL sea freight, which shares container space with other shipments.

See our China to New Zealand freight options for other ways to ship. We will help you plan the container size, loading, unpacking in New Zealand and empty-container return before booking.

FROM SUPPLIER TO DELIVERY

How FCL shipping to New Zealand works

01

Review your shipment

Start with what you are sending and where it needs to go. We will help work through size, weight and timing.
02

Load your container

Your supplier or loading team loads the container at the agreed factory, warehouse or loading point in China.
03

Arrange sea freight

We help arrange the departure port, ship booking and arrival port in New Zealand.
04

Plan NZ delivery

We confirm the port, depot, warehouse or address delivery that suits your shipment.

First, the supplier or loading team loads the cargo into a dedicated container at the agreed factory, warehouse or loading point in China. We confirm the loading address with you before booking.

Prestige Sourcing can help coordinate FCL shipments from major export centres in China such as Ningbo, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Yiwu, with arrival commonly through New Zealand ports such as Auckland, Tauranga, Lyttelton and Napier.

After arrival, we can arrange delivery to a port, depot, warehouse or final address according to the required service.

20–45 days
China to New Zealand

Importers generally choose FCL for cost efficiency and shipment control rather than speed. Transit times will depend on the China origin port, vessel schedule, customs clearance, port congestion, and final delivery arrangements within New Zealand.

As a general guide, FCL shipments from China to New Zealand are often in the 20-45 day range under regular conditions, although actual timing can vary.

We can arrange delivery across the North Island and South Island, including urban, regional and rural destinations, subject to the selected service.

Before delivery in NZ

Choose your container

Send your packed size, total weight and loading needs. We will help you compare 20ft, 40ft and high-cube (extra-height) containers; usable space depends on the goods and container.

NZ biosecurity requirements

We help you plan where your container can be unpacked. New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) requires an MPI-approved transitional facility with an accredited person available for biosecurity checks. If your address is not approved, we can discuss unpacking at an approved facility and onward delivery in your quote.

Plan unloading and return

Tell us about truck access and unloading equipment. We will clarify who unpacks the container, the time allowed before extra charges apply, the empty-return deadline and any storage or waiting fees.

FROM SUPPLIER TO YOUR ADDRESS

Delivery after your container arrives

Your container can be delivered beyond the port when the receiving site and booked service allow it. We help confirm the unpacking site, unloading responsibilities and empty-container return before booking.

If you need help from collection through to your address, see door-to-door freight. For a smaller shipment, compare LCL sea freight.
