Find the right fit for your shipment
Sea Freight from China to New Zealand (LCL & FCL)
Sea freight usually costs less for larger or heavier orders when you can allow more time for shipping.
- Well suited to bulky, heavy or higher-volume shipments
- Usually costs less overall than air freight for larger orders
- Commonly routed via Auckland or Lyttelton, with other port options including Tauranga and Napier depending on destination
- Available as both LCL for smaller shipments and FCL for dedicated container loads
Full container shipping (FCL) suits larger loads that justify their own container. LCL sea freight shares space with other shipments and generally suits about 1 cubic metre (CBM) or one pallet upwards.
Allow roughly 20–45 days as a broad guide. Your shipping quote will confirm the expected timing and whether it includes collection, handling, customs clearance and delivery.
Air Freight from China to New Zealand
By comparison, air freight suits shipments where timing matters. For example, importers commonly use it for urgent stock, higher-value goods or situations where delays would affect sales or operations.
- Much faster than sea freight for shipments into New Zealand
- Suitable for urgent goods, samples and stock orders
- More flexible than courier for mid-sized shipments
- Can be arranged door-to-door depending on service
Air cargo commonly arrives through Auckland. Allow roughly 5–10 days as a broad guide, with the expected timing and delivery arrangements confirmed in your quote. See our air freight service, or compare express courier for smaller urgent parcels.
Sea Parcel from China to New Zealand
Sea Parcel can suit a few cartons that are not urgent. It has different packing, size and charging rules from standard shared-container freight, so send us your carton details and we will help you decide whether it is a good fit.
- Suitable for smaller or infrequent shipments which are not time sensitive
- Lower cost than air freight
- Slower transit times compared to air services
- Door-to-door delivery or depot pick-up
Sea Parcel generally suits smaller cartons below 1 cubic metre (CBM). Allow roughly 20–45 days as a broad guide; grouping shipments, sailing schedules, customs checks and local delivery can affect the dates.
See our Sea Parcel service and send each carton’s measurements, weight and your postcode. We will check the service and whether depot collection or address delivery is available.
Express Courier from China to New Zealand
Express courier suits small urgent shipments such as samples, documents and spare parts. Courier companies such as DHL, UPS and FedEx usually carry these parcels by air.
- Fast transit for small shipments into New Zealand, typically 3-5 days depending on destination
- DHL, UPS, FedEx
- Suitable for urgent stock orders, samples and documents
- Delivery through the selected courier network
- Collection or drop-off arrangements confirmed before shipping
- Usually the highest cost per kg
Shipping time: Allow around 3–5 days from China to New Zealand as a broad guide. The starting point, courier service and delivery address can change the dates.

China to NZ Freight FAQs
What does a freight forwarder from China to New Zealand do?
Prestige Sourcing coordinates the movement of goods from your supplier in China to New Zealand. This can include supplier pickup, warehouse receiving, grouping shipments, export documentation, sea or air freight, customs-clearance coordination and final delivery. We explain the services included in your quote, based on the shipping method and agreed purchase terms.
What is the cheapest way to ship from China to New Zealand?
The cheapest way to ship from China to New Zealand is usually sea freight, especially for larger or heavier commercial shipments. If your goods do not fill a full container, LCL sea freight is often the most cost-effective option because you only pay for the space your cargo uses in a shared container.
For larger shipments, FCL sea freight can give the lowest cost per unit because you use a dedicated container. For smaller carton-based shipments, our China to New Zealand sea parcel service may also be suitable if timing is flexible.
To find the best value for your order, send us the carton dimensions, weight, pickup city and NZ destination, or use our freight volume calculator if you would like to estimate the shipment size. We will compare the suitable options for you.
What is the fastest way to ship from China to New Zealand?
The fastest way to ship from China to New Zealand is usually express courier, especially for samples, documents, spare parts and small parcels. Courier services are normally best when speed matters more than cost.
For urgent commercial cargo that is too large or expensive to send by courier, air freight from China to New Zealand is usually the better option. Air freight can suit stock replenishment, higher-value goods and time-sensitive shipments where sea freight would take too long.
Tell us your deadline and we can compare these faster options with LCL sea freight, FCL sea freight or sea parcel shipping to find the best balance of cost and transit time.
Can I ship less than 50kg?
Send your goods details so we can check a suitable service. A 15 USD administration fee applies to shipments under 50kg if you are not sourcing through Prestige Sourcing. The fee applies to all shipping methods.
What do you need to prepare a freight quote?
Start with your name, email, destination and the type of goods. If available, include the collection city, quantity, weight, packed dimensions and purchase terms. A packing list or supplier documents can help us assess your shipment.
China to NZ Collection, Customs and Delivery FAQs
Can you collect goods from my supplier in China?
Pickup depends on your supplier’s location. For most shipments under 100kg, you or your supplier will need to arrange delivery to the nominated warehouse in China. Send the supplier address, packed weight and measurements so we can confirm the collection or warehouse-delivery arrangements and costs.
Do I need to pay GST or customs fees in New Zealand?
GST, duty and border charges depend on the goods and applicable import rules. Where import GST applies, NZ Customs calculates it on Customs value plus any duty, freight and insurance. Goods levies, inspections or treatment may also affect the total.
We explain which import costs are included in your freight quote and which are separate. The NZ Customs import-payment guidance covers the official requirements. We coordinate clearance with the broker handling your shipment and let you know what information is required. Our NZ Customs Fee Calculator provides an estimate, not a clearance assessment.
Can you ship door-to-door from China to New Zealand?
Yes. Depending on the shipment type, we can help arrange door-to-door freight from the supplier or warehouse in China through to the delivery address in New Zealand. Door-to-door options can include sea freight, air freight, courier or parcel services.
Who is responsible for the information declared to Customs?
We coordinate the customs-clearance process with the broker handling your shipment and let you know what information is required. You are responsible for making sure the factual information you or your supplier provide about the goods is accurate and complete, including the product description, quantity, value, contents/materials and any supporting documents. We’ll flag obvious issues where we can, but we can’t verify information that has not been disclosed or has been provided incorrectly. Customs or other authorities may also request supporting evidence or inspect the shipment.
